1. About us

Mary’s Kitchen is an online recipe store operated by Frenus Investments CC. The business and contact details are shown above.

2. Products

We sell individual downloadable recipe PDFs. No physical products are dispatched. Recipe details and prices are shown before checkout.

3. Prices and currency

Displayed prices include applicable South African VAT. The authoritative transaction and order currency is South African rand (ZAR). Prices displayed in USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, CAD or NZD are indicative; payment is processed in ZAR. Banks or payment providers may apply conversion rates and fees.

4. Orders and payment

Customers can review and amend their baskets before payment. Payment is processed by PayFast. Access to paid recipes is granted only after successful payment has been verified. An abandoned or unsuccessful payment does not create paid access.

5. Delivery and My Recipe Book

Purchased and gifted recipes are made available electronically through My Recipe Book, accessed using the customer’s verified email address and a temporary login PIN. Customers may contact admin@maryskitchen.co.za if access fails. We aim to maintain access while the service operates but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability.

6. Recipe use, printing and updates

Customers may download, save and print their purchased recipes for personal use, adapt the underlying recipes to suit their tastes, and share their cooking experiences and prepared dishes with others. Mary’s Kitchen recipes have been collected from various sources and adapted, refined and presented by Mary using her cooking experience. The Mary’s Kitchen name and branding must not be used in a manner that falsely suggests endorsement or association. Customers who purchase a recipe automatically receive access to updated versions of that recipe at no additional charge through My Recipe Book for as long as the service continues to operate.

7. Promotions, gifts and vouchers

Under the five-for-one promotion, selecting any five qualifying recipes makes one of those five free; the offer repeats for each additional qualifying group of five. A gifted recipe is available to its recipient through My Recipe Book. Discount vouchers may be issued by Mary's Kitchen from time to time. Each voucher will specify its value, expiry date and redemption conditions. Vouchers are normally valid for 14 days, unless a different validity period is stated when issued. Each voucher may be redeemed once and cannot reduce the payable amount below zero. Vouchers may be used alongside the five-for-one promotion but cannot reduce the payable total below zero. Applicable conditions are displayed when a gift or voucher is offered.

8. Account access and security

Customers sign in using their email address and a temporary verification PIN; no customer password is required. Customers should protect access to their email accounts and report suspected misuse.

9. Cooking information

Customers should check ingredients, allergens, dietary suitability, food handling and cooking temperatures for their individual circumstances.

10. Refunds, cancellations and legal rights

Purchases are generally final once payment is completed and the digital recipes are available. Our Refund Policy and Cancellation Policy below apply. Nothing in these policies limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded.

11. Privacy and communications

We process personal information as described in the Privacy Policy. Essential service notifications are distinct from optional promotional messages; customers can withdraw promotional consent without losing access to purchased recipes.

Contact admin@maryskitchen.co.za for assistance or complaints. South African law governs these terms, subject to applicable mandatory consumer protections.

2. Privacy Policy

1. Responsible party and Information Officer

Frenus Investments CC operates Mary’s Kitchen and is responsible for personal information processed through the website. Information Officer: Tim Pryce. Privacy enquiries: admin@maryskitchen.co.za. Business and postal addresses appear above.

2. Information we process

We may process email addresses, verification and security records, order and payment references, purchased and gifted recipe access records, gift-recipient addresses, vouchers and redemptions, consent preferences, support correspondence and limited technical logs needed to operate and protect the website.

3. Purposes

We use information to verify logins, fulfil orders, provide My Recipe Book access, manage gifts and vouchers, reconcile payments, provide customer support, secure the website, comply with legal and tax requirements, and send communications where lawfully permitted.

4. Payment and service providers

PayFast processes payments. Mary’s Kitchen receives relevant payment status and references, not the customer’s full card details, for order fulfilment and reconciliation. Hosting, email and other service providers may process information as needed to operate the service, subject to appropriate safeguards. We do not sell personal information to advertisers.

5. Essential emails and promotional consent

Necessary emails may include login PINs, order confirmations, security notices, purchase-access notices and gift notifications. Promotional emails about new recipes, special offers and discount vouchers are optional and subject to appropriate permission. The promotional checkbox is unticked by default and reads: “Yes, I would like to receive occasional emails from Mary’s Kitchen about new recipes, special offers and discount vouchers.” Supporting text reads: “I understand that I can unsubscribe at any time. This choice will not affect my purchased recipes or essential account notifications.” Customers may withdraw promotional consent without losing recipe access. Notices about updates to already purchased recipes may be sent as service communications when genuinely necessary and not used to bypass marketing preferences.

6. Gift recipients

Where a recipe is gifted, we may use the recipient’s email address to notify them, manage access and protect the gift-claim process, subject to applicable law and communication preferences.

7. Security

We use reasonable safeguards including HTTPS, restricted system access, email verification and protections for transaction and token data. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

8. Retention and account closure

We retain purchase and gift-access records for as long as My Recipe Book continues operating, subject to lawful requests for closure or deletion and any legal, tax, accounting, dispute or security retention obligations. A customer may request closure by email; we will verify the request, explain any loss of access and obtain confirmation before closure.

9. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, individuals may request access to, correction or deletion of their personal information, object to certain processing, and withdraw consent. Requests may be sent to admin@maryskitchen.co.za. Complaints may be lodged with South Africa’s Information Regulator.

10. International processing

Some customers or service providers may be outside South Africa. Applicable cross-border data transfers will be handled with safeguards required by POPIA.

11. Cookies and technical information

The website uses necessary cookies or equivalent technologies for authentication, shopping-basket functionality and security. Mary’s Kitchen does not intend to use advertising trackers or third-party marketing analytics. Any change to this practice will require appropriate review and disclosure.

12. Changes

We may update this policy as the service or applicable requirements change. The effective date of the published version will be displayed.

3. Refund Policy

1. Digital purchases

Mary’s Kitchen sells low-cost downloadable recipe PDFs. Once payment is completed and the purchased digital recipes are available, sales are generally final. We do not offer discretionary refunds for changes of mind.

2. Problems with an order

If a paid recipe cannot be accessed, a wrong or defective file is supplied, or a payment is duplicated or incorrect, contact admin@maryskitchen.co.za. We will investigate and seek to correct the problem. Refunds or other remedies will be provided where required by applicable law.

3. How to contact us

Please email the purchasing email address, order reference (if available), recipe name and a description of the problem. Do not email payment-card details, passwords or login PINs.

4. Statutory rights

Nothing in this policy excludes or limits mandatory rights under applicable South African consumer law. Where a refund is legally due, we will arrange it through an available payment method in accordance with applicable requirements.

4. Cancellation Policy

1. No subscriptions

Recipes are purchased individually. My Recipe Book is not a paid recurring subscription; there are no subscription fees to cancel.

2. Before payment

Customers may change their selections or abandon checkout before completing payment.

3. After payment

Once payment is completed and digital recipes are made available, purchases are generally final. Cancellation or refund rights required by applicable law remain unaffected.

4. Account closure

Customers may request closure of their My Recipe Book account at admin@maryskitchen.co.za. Before closure we will verify the request, explain that access to purchased or gifted recipes may be lost, and obtain confirmation. Records may be retained where legally required.

5. Gifts and vouchers
